Adolescent & Family

I have been working with adolescents and their families for over a decade. My typical adolescent client is initially referred to me by their concerned parents. If you are a teen who found this site on your own, I must first tell you that you have a much higher than average level of insight and are therefore likely to do very well therapy!

The typical first signs of struggle for adolescents tend to be problems with performance and underachievement at school. You know you can do better, but can’t figure out why you are not. Concerned parents usually try a variety of approaches to solve the problem but because they don’t always know the real cause of the problem their well-meaning attempts to help sometimes leads to an ever worsening cycle of conflict with their teens. If your family is at this stage, then the solution will involve helping your teen with their problem as well as helping the family with more effective communication skills.

If you are reading this then you have probably already recognized that you need professional help and a new approach. While occasionally very insightful adolescents can tell us that they are struggling with anxiety, or low mood, drugs, video games, or problems with motivation and concentration, I typically discover these root problems only after a careful assessment. So don’t delay and book your appointment online now or feel free to contact me for more information.
